It is reported to Sky News, a plan is underway to kill Police Inspector Kolombage of the Police Special Task Force, who was convicted by the Balapitiya Magistrate’s Court for the murder of Indika Prabath, before being handed over to the court.
Despite the order of Galle Senior Superintendent of Police Elpitiya to arrest Police Inspector Kolomboge, who was found guilty of Indika Prabath’s murder, and present him before the Balapitiya Magistrate Court, Elpitiya has so far failed to arrest him and produce him before the court. The Magistrate who ordered Indika Prabath’s case to be called again on October 8, ordered the police to arrest kolomboge on that day and present him before the court.
Reports reaching us confirm STF police inspector Kolombage has shot Indika Prabath on the orders of STF commander senior DIG Varuna Jayasundara. However a group who is in fear that Kolombage would testify before the courts against STF commander senior DIG Varuna Jayasundara, a plan is underway to kill Kolombage before that.
More reports confirm about a plan underway to shoot and kill police inspector Kolombage and incriminate the murder on Indika Prabath’s wife Piyumi and accuse her for commiting the murder using Karandeniye Suda. Piyumi told us that the police special task force is spreading false propaganda that she knows the weapons that her husband Indika Prabath hid.
The Police Special Task Force arrested Indika Prabhat on the night of October 12, 2022 at No. 213 Welegedara, Belideniya Kottegoda house and then took him to Ahungalla citing to see his hidden weapons and shot him dead in the early hours of October 13
.Piyumi, the deceased’s wife, has testified before the court that on the night of October 12, 2022, when Indika Prabath was arrested, STF Senior DIG Varuna Jayasundara too visited the same Kottegoda house. She was arrested on the morning of September 3 by the Colombo Criminal Investigation Department’s Group Robbery Division citing she gave false evidence against Jayasundara and was taken to Dikwella Police and then presented to Balapitiya Court on the same day.
It is the magistrate who finally decides whether Piumi’s testimony before the court is a false testimony or a true testimony. Neither Jayasundara nor the CID has the legal right to arrest Piyumi or anyone else for giving false evidence without a court order. Jayasundara has incited the Criminal Investigation Department to take revenge on Piyumi by arbitrarily using power for testifying against him.
On June 9, 2024, the Magistrate, taking into account the report of the forensic officer and the contradictions in the evidence regarding the death of Indika Prabath and declared the death of the deceased as intentional homicide. Almost four months have passed today since the Balapitiya Magistrate ordered the police to arrest STF inspector Kolombage and bring him to court.
It appears that the police have violated the court order and acted in Jayasundara’s interest. From this incident it is clear that the law is selectively applied for powerful people attached to the government forces and to the common man.
