Train drivers say that they did not give requests, 100 train times are cancelled

An official of the Railway Department said that today (07) almost 100 train journeys had to be canceled due to the strike started by the Locomotive Operating Engineers Train Drivers Union yesterday (06) at midnight, saying that the Railway Authority did not grant the demands.

As the train drivers’ strike continued till this afternoon, the people who came to the railway stations to end the day and go home in the afternoon, including the office workers, were inconvenienced.

Trains arrived in Colombo this morning from all the railway lines, but many trains did not leave Colombo in the afternoon. Passengers were inconvenienced.

However, more than 30 train journeys had to be canceled this morning.

The Department of Railways stated that night mail trains and long-distance service trains will run as usual tonight.

A spokesman for the Locomotive Operating Engineers Union said the strike would continue if the authorities did not heed their demands.
