A “Workers’ Council” was formed on 6 February this month at the Ratmalana and Moratuwa Railway Housing Complex to mobilize the working and oppressed masses in the class war that is set to erupt in the future.
The meeting was convened by comrades Priyantha Silva and Reji Perera.
About 15 working and retired workers from the public and private sectors participated enthusiastically in this meeting.
The society we live in is a society of classes, and the two main classes among those classes are the workers and the capitalist class.
This workers’ council that was established is a testament to the petty bourgeois illusion that the working class can win rights by begging from the capitalists or by influencing capitalist governments. The capitalist system has proven more than ever that there is no solution to any of the socio-economic problems facing humanity, not only by taking power on a global scale, but also to environmental disasters. This council, which is being established based on the working class oppressed people of Ratmalana and Moratuwa, is a council that is being established solely for the working class to take power, based entirely on the perspective of the working class.
This council is a broad democratic council where workers and oppressed people of the area can participate without distinction of political party, and especially those holding office in capitalist parties or those hostile to the people cannot be represented in that council. Also, Comrade Shantha Wijesuriya expressed his views and said that he openly invites leftist comrades in the Ratmalana and Moratuwa areas to participate in this council.
Comrade Srinath Perera of the United Socialist Party and other comrades expressed their consent with Wijesuriya’s idea. Everyone agreed with the proposal to prepare a vision document and to prepare a document to distribute among the public, emphasizing that the crisis we are facing is a result of an inevitable crisis of the capitalist system rather than a problem of the NPP or the rulers who have ruled the country so far.
