Prabath’s wife asks the President to do justice to her husband Indika Prabath

By Shantha wijesooriya

Mahesh Indika Prabath was arrested by the Police Special Task Force on October 12, 2022 in Kottegoda, taken to Ahungalla citing to show his weapons hidden and brutally shot dead.

Later, the Balapitiya Magistrate ruled that the killing was not an act of self-defense but an intentional killing and ordered the police to immediately arrest and produce the police inspector of the Special Task Force, Colombage to court, but three months have passed since the order was given to arrest him but the police has failed to do so. Indika Prabath’s wife Piyumi asks President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to investigate and enforce the law regarding the injustice that has happened.

Piumi has made that request to the President by sending a letter to the Presidential Secretariat.

The reason why she made that request to the President is against the background of the request made by DIG Varuna Jayasundara, the head of the Police Special Task Force, to the President to release the STF officers from the human rights cases and arrest orders assigned to the STF officers dedicated to suppressing the underworld.
It was later revealed that my husband was not involved in the shooting incident that happened on 12th October 2022 in Ahungalle. In such a situation, shooting my husband to death is  equal to killing an unarmed citizen?

I really hope that your government will fulfill the law duly against this injustice that happened. During the previous government once you said  ” when your loved ones are not there, the pain will never go away for the concerned parties”. Piumi further noted in her letter that she cannot bear the untimely death of her husband.

The full letter she sent to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is published below
