Piliyandala Police releases a young man who was arrested with two grams of ice after extorting four hundred thousand rupees.

A group of police officers attached to the crime raid division of the Piliyandala Police is alleged of extorting four hundred thousand rupees for the release of a young man who was arrested with two grams of Ice. Isuru Randika Wickramaratne, the officer in charge of Piliyandala Police’s Raid Division has also participated in the raid.
It is said that the police raiding unit has taken money from the young man by threatening to file a case in the high court for smuggling.
A packet containing two grams of Ice was placed on the young man who was arrested by the Piliyandala police and produced him to the court.This young man is a resident of Kesbewa Batuwandara area and his father is a famous businessman. The young man owns several air-conditioned buses.
The young man was arrested with two grams of Ice in a house situated in Batakattara Sarabhumi housing complex.When the police raided the house, the young man who owns the buses threw the two grams of Ice he had in his possession on the ceiling of Sarabhumi house and then the police officer named Senanayake, who is attached to Piliyandala crime division, has assaulted the young man asking for the hidden Ice. Peshal Vasala, the owner of Sarabhumi house, who was unbearable looking at the police officer hitting the bus owner, taken the Ice packet from the ceiling and given it to the police officer.
Peshal who is addicted ti Ice is a spy working for the Kesbewa Excise Department. Whenever Peshal  gives a tip to the police, he is presented with Ice and money by the Excise Department. Peshal, who was fined for this minor offence was sent to Welikada prison unable to pay the fine.
Piliyandala police asked the young who was caught with Ice to call ten youths who called his mobile at the time, requested them to come to the house and arrested them.Seven of those ten youths were arrested by placing Ice packets and produced them to the court while the other three youths were released on police bail.
During our inquiry with Isuru Wickramaratne the OIC of the Piliyandala police said, he admits that such a raid was carried out and that not two grams of Ice was seized from the arrested youth but a significant amount of ice, and he denies the allegation that he took money for the youth’s release.
