Kosgoda police assaults and kills a youth

A youth arrested by the Kosgoda Police on suspicion of a drug incident has died after being admitted to the Balapitiya Base Hospital.

The deceased is a 27-year-old youth named Tharidu Siriwardena de Zoysa, a resident of Kosgoda intersection.

The police say that the youth was arrested yesterday (01) afternoon and the suspect died after being admitted to the Balapitiya Base Hospital due to a sudden illness while in police custody.

The father of the deceased youth had told the media that Kosgoda Police officers assaulted his son when they arrested him.

Police say that the suspect was admitted to the hospital after he fainted while being held in the police cell and the suspect died after being admitted to the hospital.
