Ganga Kumuduni Kumari, Dinesh Kumar’s wife, told Lanka Sky News that her husband Jayakodi Arachchi’s Don Dinesh Kumara was abducted on the 29 of May by Dematagoda Special Crime Division. Dinesh Kumara is a father of three residing at No. 6-2 Samaja Seva Pura, Katuwewa, Suriyawewa Hambantota. Dinesh Kumar’s wife Kumuduni Kumari told us that he was abducted in connection with a murder incident in Wellawatta area.
The Dematagoda Crime Division arrested Dinesh Kumara’s wife Kumuduni Kumari instead of Dinesh Kumar on February 14 in Suriyavewa and detained her for four days for questioning and later released her. The crime branch has arrested her on the assumption that her husband Dinesh Kumara will come and surrender to the crime branch. However, arresting the wife instead of the husband is not permitted by law and the Dematagoda Crime Division has violated her fundamental rights by arresting Kumuduni Kumari instead of Dinesh Kumara and interrogating her.
Dinesh Kumara was attached to the 10th Gajaba Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army and was injured by gunshots during the last war. Since then, Dinesh Kumar has been out of military service and has been referred to the Medical Recommendation Committee for retirement.
Lawyers Senaka Perera and lawyer Danushka De Silva, the executive directors of the Committee for the Protection of Prisoners’ Rights, have gone to the Dematagoda Crime Division to investigate the kidnapping of Dinesh Kumara.
