Indika Prabhath’s wife says that the NPP government is acting based on social class.

Piyumi Watsala, the wife of Mahesh Indika Prabath, who was killed by the Police Special Task Force, said that it is not fair for the president and other stakeholders to appear only on behalf of Lasantha Wickrematunge’s case, while the Attorney General has closed the cases related to the murder of journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge, the shooting of 11 inmates at Mahara Prison, and the shooting of a youth in the Anuradhapura by the Special Task Force.

The country’s righteous citizens and those who stand for the rule of law expect that justice and fairness will not be achieved through the intervention of the executive or political authorities, but that the law will be implemented equally for all. Therefore, I kindly request you to establish an institution that will not interfere in the implementation of the law, based on the social status of each individual and that all citizens of the country will be accepted equally and that all people will be treated equally, Piyumi Watsala, the wife of Indika Prabhat, has requested in a letter to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The letter states:

I have learned from the media that you have summoned the Attorney General and asked him the reasons for closing the case regarding the murder of journalist Lasantha Wickramatunga. It is a serious problem that the Attorney General was summoned and asked about the facts when the court has not issued an order to arrest the accused involved in the murder of Wickramatunga and informed me in writing that he cannot intervene in closing the case despite the court order to arrest my husband’s killer. Is Lasantha Wickramatunga being treated like this because he is a citizen with a high social background in Colombo and not being treated the same because my husband is a resident of rural Thanamalwila area? I had a reasonable feeling.

The Prime Minister told Parliament that Wickremesinghe’s daughter has sent a letter to her and that she is also seeking justice. But I have sent three letters to the Prime Minister seeking justice for my husband who was killed by the Special Task Force. If there was a system and governance system in place for any victim to get justice whether or not they send letters to the rulers of the country, a widow like me would not have to make so many appeals.
