Despite Balapitiya Magistrate Janaka ordering Senior Superintendent of Police of Galle, Elpitiya to arrest and produce the police Special Task Force Sub-Inspector Don Laxman Amaratunga Kolambage, who shot and killed Mahesh Indika Prabath, it is reported that he has fled the country.
The Magistrate ruled that the cause of the death of the deceased was not a self-defense shooting by Sub-Inspector Kolombage but a deliberate shooting and ordered Senior Superintendent of Police Elpitiya in Galle to arrest Kolambage and immediately produce him in court.
The Balapitiya Magistrate has ordered the arrest of STF sub inspector Kolombage and to be produced in court on 09 July 2024 and despite 20 days having elapsed by tomorrow, Senior Superintendent of Police Elpitiya has failed to arrest and produce him in court.
Despite a court order having been ruled to arrest STF sub inspector Kolombage and produce him to the court there is a serious doubt the delay in his arrest was to allow Kolomboge to escape from the country.
According to testimony of Indika Prabhat’s wife Naotunna Arachchige Piumi Vatsalathe the commanding officer of the STF, senior deputy inspector general
Varuna Jayasundara was among the members of the Police Special Task Force who kidnapped Indika Prabhat.
The lawyers of the aggrieved party are going to request the courts, the arrest of Kolambage who shot Indika Prabath in his forehead and killed Indika through a motion on the 29. Prabath’s forehead was burnt by the fire which came out of the pistol barrel, envisaging how close the shot was fired to the forehead. Although publishing the picture of him being shot in the forehead is against media ethics, we are publishing that picture so that the public can see the brutality of the Police Special Task Force.
