.January is still black, the National People’s Forces (NPP) held a public petition and protest in front of the Fort Railway Station on 29 evening urging the government to bring justice to crimes against the media.
This protest was organized by the Sri Lanka Professional Journalists Association.
The protest was held demanding justice for journalists who were killed, abducted, disappeared and assaulted by previous governments.
The month was named Black January because the majority of journalist killings and abductions and disappearances have occurred in January in recent years.
Black January celebration started in January 2012. Since then, January has been celebrated every year as Black January.
We, the National People’s Forces, are urging the government to find and bring to justice those responsible for the killings, abductions, and disappearances committed by previous governments.
