Galle Senior Superintendent of Police Elpitiya, who was in charge of the investigation related to the alleged murder of Katuwanagama Acharige Mahesh Indika Prabath has been removed from the investigations and assigned to the Criminal Investigation Department to start the fresh investigations from the beginning.

The murder of Indika Prabath has become a sensational incident as well as a matter of discussion among the legal community and the general public. The Balapitiya Magistrate rejected the request made by the Attorney General to adjourn the case AR/2049/22 pending before the Balapitiya Court, and the Attorney General was ordered to appear before the court on December 10.

Indika Prabath was arrested on October 12, 2022 at his wife’s house in Kottegoda, brutally assaulted and taken to Ahungalla citing to show his hidden weapons. The police had reported to the court, when Indika Prabath tried to shoot the police with a hidden weapon, he was killed by a gun shot by the police Special Task Force for self-defense.

According to the report, Indika Prabath was taken to the Ahungalla area and broke his fingers by means of an S-lon pipe and his knees joints were broken by beating. Indika Prabath was tortured mercilessly by the Special Task Force demanding for weapons. We have also come to know that Indika Prabhat’s wife Piyumi is preparing to request the court to conduct a fresh post-mortem in future proceedings as the facts related to the torture are not stated in the medical report.

Four months have passed since the Magistrate ordered the police to arrest STF Police Inspector Kolomboge and bring him to court, but the police have insulted the court by not arresting Police Inspector Kolomboge and bringing him to court.

Recent reports confirm the Inspector General of Police has acted on the instructions of the President to remove SSP Elpitiya from the investigations and hand over further investigations to the Criminal Investigation Department, as SSP Elpitiya has become a puppet of STF DIG head Varuna Varuna Jayasundara.
