We do not have any deals with anyone, we will find Deshabandu soon – Minister of mass media

Minister of Mass Media and Health Nalin de Jayatissa said that police teams are being deployed to arrest not only Deshabandhu Thennakoon but also several other people who have not been named. Meantime no one is saying that the Police have a deal with Prasanna Ranaweera.  However the police are looking for both Prasanna Ranaweera and Sewwandi.

These are the only ones you know, but we are searching for those you don’t know by deploying many police teams. 13 people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeeva. Among those 13 are two police officers and a prison jailer. While conducting the investigation, we realized that this has spread to the state machinery as well. The minister passed the ball to the journalists, saying that if you have information that the police don’t know, give it to the police.

He passed the ball in this way in response to a question raised by a Lanka Sky news journalist at a discussion held yesterday (18) afternoon to inform cabinet decisions at the Government Information Department in Polhengoda, Kirulapone.

The question raised by the Lanka Sky News journalist.

Was the former IGP not arrested because he had another deal with the government? Or is the police acting outside the government’s control and acting in a way that is not necessary for the police or in a way that is convenient for other groups? The Court of Appeal has given a ruling saying the motive for coming to this court is not sincere.

An officer holding the highest position in the government, especially in a place that protects law and order, is setting a wrong example by avoiding the courts in this way. However, can’t the government deploy the police and arrest him? This has become a  big joke?

Question – What steps the government is planning to take against the IGP according to the recent Court of Appeal judgment?

Answer – The six officers of the Colombo Crimes Division are currently suspended. They had made a request to the Court of Appeal to prevent their arrest. Accordingly, at that time, the Attorney General’s Department reached an agreement that they would not be arrested in the Court of Appeal. That case will be heard on March 21. It does not apply to Deshabandu Tennakoon.

Question – The Court of Appeal says that no such order was given. What is the government’s decision regarding the suspended IGP?

Answer – Six police teams are deployed to search him. The government is trying to arrest him soon

Question – A person with an open warrant who is evading court. Yesterday, his wife and child came and gave their statements before the Criminal Investigation Department. We remember that earlier, Sewwandi’s mother and brother, who were wanted in connection with the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeeva, were brought by the Criminal Investigation Department. Only the dog and cat were not brought back from the Criminal Investigation Department. But that is not happening here. The law is being applied in two ways, this is a government servant who is violating court orders and absconding. A government servant holding the highest position? What is the government’s position on this?

Not an arrest, but will there be a  disciplinary investigation conducted against him? Have the other six people involved in this incident been suspended? But the IGP has not been suspended. Will there be a disciplinary investigation from the government side regarding him?

Answer – The court’s decision has suspended his duties as IGP. he is not interdicted. Then what can I say as a government we have implemented the law equally and fairly for everyone?

The decision given by the appeals court yesterday is valuable. It is not just about arresting him, but we will enforce the law against those who are protecting him.

Just as the law was implemented when searching for Sewwandi, the law will be implemented against the family of the accused involved in the rape of the female doctor in Anuradhapura, and the law is being implemented against those who are harboring Deshabandu Tennakoon. It will not take long, the police are doing their utmost to locate him.

Question – It has been more than eighteen days now but the police have not been able to arrest him. How many hours did it take for the CID to arrest Ganemulla Sanjeeva. Our journalist asked why the law enforcement agency cannot find the head of the law enforcement agency?

Answer – Not only Deshabandhu Thennakoon we are searching for many other people we have not spoken to. We have deployed many police teams to find him.

You are not telling us that we have a deal with Prasanna Ranaweera. We are in search of Prasanna Ranaweera as well as Sewwandi. We are only looking for those you know, we are looking for those you do not know. Police teams have been deployed.

Question – What is the government’s position against this officer?

Answer – I can’t say right now. The Police Department or the Ministry of Public Security will make a statement regarding this soon. The Attorney General say his opinion.
