Former prison superintendent shot dead

Former prison superintendent shot deadAhangama Walawage Siridath Dhammika, a former superintendent of the Galle Boossa Prison, was shot dead by an unknown gunman yesterday 13 evening. He was 61 years old at the time of the murder and was a pensioner. Dhammika was shot while he was working at his house in Thalgahawatte, Akmeemana, when unknown gunmen who arrived on a motorbike shot him and fled, the police said. The shooter had arrived on a motorbike to carry out the shooting. He was shot using a 9mm firearm. The motorbike was found abandoned in a palm grove on the Seethadola Aranya Senansana Road in Thalgahawatte. The retired prison officer was shot in the head and was bleeding. The man who suffered serious injuries from the shooting, was admitted to the Galle Karapitiya Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival. He is a father of one child.
