The Minister of Public Security, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, says that it was not the Minister of Public Security who arrested Sewwandi’s mother and her brother. 

He also said when police intelligence units went to the IGP’s house, they found that the IGP had escaped by leaving the PSO who was assigned for his security. However he said he believes that the police will arrest him soon.

The Minister said this during a press conference held at the Government Information Department in Polhengoda, Kirulapone yesterday 4 morning.

Lanka Sky News journalist Shantha Wijesuriya raised a question that Sewwandi’s mother and brother have been arrested by the police now. A court order has been issued against the IGP of this country, asking the police to arrest him and produce him before the court. Either the IGP should appear or the Minister of Public Security should intervene and arrest him and produce him before the court. I am afraid there are two laws in this country, one law for the nobles and another law for the common people?

The minister also said:

If we analyze and review the security of those who have been provided with security by the authorities, we can make a report on the people who are leaving the MSD group and the PSO.

Security has been provided considering the security of each individual.

Some people use the conflict between the underworld gangs to raise the issue of national security and saying that security should be provided to the so-called elites. We provide security based on a review. If they themselves show that they can go without the PSO and the MSD, that itself shows how much security is there?

Question – A situation has arisen where the police are looking for the IGP. What is the cabinet’s opinion on this?

Answer – The cabinet’s decision is that all those involved in this incident should be arrested.
