The chairman of the Common Progressive Front T.A. Prasanna has been transferred to Gampaha and G.P. Prabath has been suspended from work for exposing the abuse of  National Transport Medical Institute Chairman Darshan Abeyratne.

The reason for the transfer of the chairman of Common Progressive Front T.A. Prasanna and suspending G.P. Prabath from work is protesting against the chairman of National Transport Medical Institute Dharshan Abeyrathne for assaulting an office assistant named Janith Chathuranga. 

Janith Chathuranga got admitted to the hospital after lodging a complaint in the Baduraliya Police (CIB 342/342) against the  chairman of the National Transport Medical Institute in Nugegoda.

Chairman Dharshan Abeyrathne attacked Janith Chathurange on December 30 2023. 

On that day, a leadership training workshop was held at Baduraliya Kukulegama (Laya Leisure) Following the workshop when he was getting ready to go home, one of the directors of the institute informed Janith Chaturanga to meet the chairman Dharshan Abeyrathne

When he went to meet the chairman Dharshan Abeyrathne,  the chairman pulled Chaturanga from his shirt and slapped him. The reason for the assaulting Janith Chaturanga was because a woman working as the head of the Vavuniya branch of the Nugegoda office was gossiping to Darshana Abeyratne and the employees of the organization allege that the chairman has an illegal affair with her.

Later Janith Chaturanga betrayed the employees who spoke on behalf of him and knelt before the chairman with his parents and later withdrew the police complaint. As a revenge against Prasanna and Prabath who were at the forefront protesting Chaturanga’s incident, the current chairman Dharshan has transferred Prasanna to Gampaha and suspended Prabath from his duties.

Prabath has been suspended in connection with an alleged irregularity that happened in 2023. He has been accused of working as a medical assistant at the National Transport Medical Institute and assisting the blind to obtain medical certificates. Later, the disciplinary investigation against Prabath was halted by Dr. Shavendra Gamage and technical equipment were installed to prevent irregularities.

In order to take revenge on Prabath who raised his voice against the current chairman who assaulted an employee, an old allegation against the former chairman Dr. Shavendra Gamage spending money unnecessarily has been brought up and suspended Prabath’s work. 

T.A. Prasanna, the chairman of the National Transport Medical Institute’s Common Progressive Front, while working at the Nugegoda office, was transferred to Gampaha due to his hostility to the chairman’s abusive work. He was living in Nugegoda with his wife and children but now Prasanna had to travel from Nugegoda to Gampaha every day.

Copies of the letter questioning the chairman about the injustice happened to Prabath have been sent to  President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Minister of Transport and Highways Bandula Gunawardena.

“I am being transferred to Gampaha because I raised my voice against the  chairman in public who assaulted Janith Chathuranga”  said Common Progressive Front chairman T.A. Prasanna when we questioned him.

Meantime we tried to contact the chairman of the National Transport Medical Association but could not get connected
